Thank you for your patience while we try to work with Apple to solve ping spikes on macOS. We truly understand that a hardware solution may not be ideal, especially for a laptop, but it’s a good solution. If your machine does not have an ethernet port, we recommend that you purchase an ethernet adapter such as Apple's USB Ethernet Adapter to work around the issue. We found that this issue only occurs on wifi connections and not with ethernet connections, so it’s best to use ethernet rather than wifi(such as the one that's built into a Mac Mini, Mac Pro or iMac). Closing apps one by one may help you identify which app is causing the ping spike, but since you probably need those apps, this won't be much help in the long term. It not only affects Synergy users, but gamers too. The bad news is that it's an issue that Apple hasn't been fixed yet. The good news is that it's probably not your wifi access point causing the issue, and it's most likely the problem described above (an issue with your wifi adapter). Obviously, not using these apps is not really an option, but at least knowing what can cause a ping spike may help with frustration. Many macOS apps cause the WiFi adapter to be queried, so either opening or just generally using apps like Chrome and Safari almost always trigger a ping spike. Response times in the hundreds of milliseconds mean that the cursor will feel as if it's lagging. This is the delay caused by the macOS issue and it impacts the performance of Synergy. Notice that the ping times are now in the 100s of milliseconds, for example, 489.221 ms. Click on the Ping tab and you should be presented with the following: To perform a ping open the Network Utility from Applications > Utilities. As part of the ping process, the time taken for the remote computer to respond is measured. Ping is a utility for checking communication between computers is operational essentially an "are you there?" message between computers. "While it’s on that temporary channel, the STA can’t be on the channel it’s using to communicating with the AP, and thus you see spikes in latency." - Quinn “The Eskimo!” (Developer Technical Support, Core OS/Hardware at Apple) How can I see a ping spike on my macOS? We have opened a dialog with Apple Developer Relations about this issue, which has thankfully been fielded by Quinn “The Eskimo!” (Developer Technical Support, Core OS/Hardware at Apple) and we're working with them to try to solve the problem. One of the best ways to see the slowdown is to use the Network Utility app (included with macOS) and look for a "ping spike", a condition where communication between computers slows down. This doesn't just affect Synergy all applications requiring network access are impacted, including games and Apple's own utilities. As far as we know, Apple has not announced plans to fix this issue. The mouse lag problem is caused by a long-standing underlying macOS issue which causes the wifi hardware to temporarily slow down under certain conditions, such as having the wifi menu bar open. Some tools such as WiFriedX have been created to disable AWDL and AirDrop, which some people suspect causes this issue. You can tell if a machine is the server computer if it has a white dot on it on the Synergy config app. Generally, mouse lag happens on macOS when the macOS is the client computer and not the server computer. This wifi lag could affect your Synergy experience, causing mouse lag where the mouse cursor movement appears delayed or choppy. This is also known as a "ping spike" (named after the ‘ping’ tool). On macOS, the wifi adapter can sometimes lag randomly. Other than slow wifi, the only possible cause could be a problem with the CPU or memory problems that can cause the mouse cursor to lag. There are currently no known issues in Synergy for the Windows and Linux operating systems that could cause mouse lag. If your computers don't have ethernet ports, you may need to purchase a USB ethernet adapter. If your ethernet network is in another room, or you don't have one, then you could set up an ethernet network. The best solution is to use an ethernet cable. You can check if this is the issue by doing a ping test. The most common cause for a mouse cursor to lag is usually a bad WiFi connection. To avoid confusion, it’s worth mentioning that the reboot of the Modern Warfare series will be numbered with Roman numbers. Two years later, it was replaced by Warzone 2.0, a complete overhaul of the game’s map and experience. The unique Zombies modes have become a staple of the series since their first inclusion in 2008’s World at War, and they have appeared in multiple entries since.įinally, the franchise entered the battle royale and live service genres with Warzone, launched in 2020, which became a huge success. 2019’s Call of Duty Mobile took its place and is still running today. Then there’s the Chinese free-to-play Call of Duty Online, released in 2015 and shut down in 2021. Examples of this are PS Vita’s Call of Duty: Black Ops: Declassified and Nintendo DS’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3: Defiance. In fact, many main entries have significantly different editions for mobile/handheld when compared to the major console releases. Spin-offs include strategy game Call of Duty: Siege, launched in 2016 based on Infinite Warfare’s universe Call of Duty: Heroes, released in 2014 and the mobile version of Call of Duty: Black Ops. For example, Call of Duty: United Offensive is an expansion for the first game, while Call of Duty: Finest Hour and Call of Duty 2: Big Red One are side stories of the first two entries. However, things get complicated when you add all the expansions, online experiences, mobile games, and spin-offs. If we consider only the main entries with single-player campaigns, including all the World War II titles, the Modern Warfare suubseries (plus its reboot), and the Black Ops subseries, there are 19 video games in the franchise. Due to quite a few subseries, a reboot, and the many studios that have worked or are working in the series, it can be a bit troublesome to determine how many Call of Duty games have been released.
